Introduced in 1992, the RS1800 was destined as the replacement for the RS Turbo, setting out to offer a more sophisticated experience, relying on displacement rather than the notoriously laggy turbo. Arguably far more comfortable and manageable on the roads, the RS1800 manages to retain Ford’s iconic 90’s styling cues, taking inspiration from the Turbo, and XR2i models before it. Today, these quirky Fiestas offer fantastic value, presenting iconic hot hatch styling, impressive reliability, and a thoroughly enjoyable drive.
First registered on the 12th of October 1994, this particular example has since been enjoyed by just 7 former keepers and stands with 96k on the clock. In recent times, the vehicle has been rewarded for its time on the road, with notable restoration work undertaken by the current keeper.
As part of the process, the vehicle is said to have received everything needed for a body restoration, including near rear arches, and a fresh coat of gloss white paint. The bodywork restoration has been documented within a series of photos taken by the current keeper and leaves this RS1800 in excellent condition today.
Alongside the aforementioned bodywork, the vehicle has no doubt been subject to its fair share of maintenance, as supported by a rather impressive collection of history and paperwork. Included within, is a respectable collection of previous MOT certificates, invoices detailing repairs and maintenance, a stamped service booklet, and the current V5C document.
Benefitting from the previously mentioned exterior restoration work, this Fiesta shows quite an impressive exterior finish, offering glossy white paintwork and tidy surfaces to observe. There are of course occasional blemishes on show, including a few very minor paint runs, but nothing that detracts from what is a perfectly usable, and respectably presentable retro icon.
Accompanying the fresh paintwork, are the original twin five-spoke alloy wheels, each of which offers a great finish, with only a few minor marks and signs of age to show. Trim components such as lights, glass and badging also present themselves very well for their age, leaving rather little to be further desired.
Even with the aforementioned defects taken into account, the vehicle’s finish is certainly impressive for its age, and this Fiesta RS1800 will no doubt continue to turn heads wherever it ventures for many more miles to come.
Falling sweetly into the retro hot hatch category, the RS1800 offers a thoroughly enjoyable driving experience, combining the platform’s characterful handling, with a spritely 1.8L four-cylinder, and five-speed manual gearbox. Even on today’s roads, you’ll find this iconic Ford more than capable on twisty B-roads, where it is sure to instil a wild grin on the face of anyone lucky enough to be behind the wheel.
Buyers will be pleased to know that the vehicle fires up right away, and is believed to perform exactly as it should, with no known mechanical or electrical issues to note. This is likely a result of an excellent maintenance record, which is detailed within the included service booklet, and a generous selection of invoices.
As the cherry on top, the vehicle also boasts advisory-free MOT until the 8th of February, 2024, granting the new keeper plenty of stress-free miles ahead.
Believed to be mostly original, the interior of this Fiesta offers quite a characterful space to enjoy the hot hatch’s legendary prowess from within. No surprise considering the vehicle’s age, there are of course signs of wear to show. The vast majority of these can be found on the rear bench, in the form of light tears and misaligned fabric.
The front seats, however, seemingly show fewer signs of age and continue to offer plenty of comfort and support, with only the expected hallmarks of light use. Carpeting throughout the cabin follows suit, presenting a rather tidy finish, whilst benefitting from the protection of floor mats atop.
Facing forward, you’ll find the steering wheel, dashboard and accompanying controls in great order for their age. With only a few light signs of use, minor damage to the radio display and a slight repair to the centre console area, it would appear these elements have held up rather well over time.
Overall, the interior offers both a welcome combination of original components and potential for light restoration work. As previously mentioned, there are the expected signs of age to show, but these are arguably a worthy trade for retaining original seats, instruments and details on such a rare vehicle.
The RS1800 is one of the most iconic modern classic Fords money can buy, nipping at the RS Turbo’s heels at every instance. The platform presents both fantastic collection potential and driving enjoyment, and deserves to be considered by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
This 1994 example presented today offers an excellent opportunity to obtain one of these desirable hot hatches, benefitting from excellent maintenance, light restoration work, and caring ownership. Offered with plenty of history and advisory-free MOT until Feb 2024, this 1994 Fiesta RS1800 is certainly ready to be enjoyed.
