Vehicle History

Overall condition: Good, with patina
Number of owners: 1 family in Malta, 1 in UK
History: None, verbal only
MOT: Exempt
ULEZ: Exempt

Sold as the Austin Mini Countryman and the Morris Mini Traveller, the wood framed estate appeared in 1960, and ran together until 1967 when the Mk2 Mini was introduced. By 1969 the new Mini Clubman Estate was launched.

The Woody estates are nearly 10” longer than a standard Mini saloon, and with their folding rear seats are a practical tiny estate car, with all the driving fun of a Mini and the classless image the car enjoyed.

This car was sold new in Malta and was one family owned on the island until it was imported to the UK this year. It has been registered with the DVLA and all import costs and paperwork completed.

Exterior

Having lived on Malta until very recently, this example which is in unrestored original condition and has only 20,000 miles on the clock, the hot and dry climate has been kind to the car which despite some sun burn on the paint and patina around the bodywork, is in very pleasing condition.

Importantly the timber frame at the back looks to be in excellent shape, solid and with nice varnish, and the panels are generally undamaged.

The trim appears to be all present, and generally in decent condition with just some pitting in the chrome finish of the bumpers and lamp bezels, and the bonnet badge having crazed.

Mechanics

The 850cc A series starts easily, idles smoothly and revs well. The gears select cleanly and, manoeuvring for photos, the brakes stopped the Mini well. The car appears to drive well.

The owner has just fitted new fuel pump, fuel lines and brake pipes to make it run and drive safely.

Interior

With so few miles on the clock the interior has not has much use, and the lack of sunburn to the seat tops suggests it was garaged or parked under a car port as the grey vinyl seats show hardly any signs of wear.

Underfoot the original rubber flooring is in good condition and the headlining is excellent, although the interior light lens is missing.

It has sliding side windows front and rear, although the driver’s window catch is missing.

In the back the rear seat base folds forward and the back folds flat for a large load area.

Why bid?

This woody has a charming patina, and interesting history having come from Malta. It drives well and the interior is in good condition and being one of the short lived Mk2’s it’s a very rare example of an interesting car.
