The iconic Porsche 911 has become a ‘must-have’ for many car enthusiasts; its unique combination of good looks, German build quality and near-perfect performance and handling have made it an obvious choice for any discerning driver’s garage, but if you fancy something slightly different from the model range, then consider this striking Supersport Cabriolet.
Finished in dazzling Grand Prix white, this mid-1980s example of Stuttgart’s finest motoring export will be on the receiving end of admiring looks wherever you take it. Sitting on a set of contrasting black 16in Fuchs alloy wheels and with the trademark ‘whale tail’ and arches associated with Turbo-engined cars, the Supersport was created to offer the purposeful looks without the power or the price tag.
A dark blue fabric hood with electrically-powered folding mechanism offers a touch of colour to the overall look, but with black on white detailing, period-correct bumper ‘bellows’ and low-slung front spoiler, this is one 911 that looks ready for business and would look perfectly at home around town as well as on the open road.
With just six owners and an impressive service history, the overall mechanical condition of this Porsche 911 is as you would expect. The 3.2-litre flat-six engine and five-speed manual gearbox will gladly propel you to 150mph with relative ease and makes for the perfect touring car with the added bonus of being able to eat up scenic, twisting back roads with confidence.
With just 78,000 miles on the odometer, the present owner has looked after this car impeccably for the last nine years and the history file boasts numerous receipts from Porsche specialists, including for storage in a climate-controlled facility.
With dark blue carpets, centre console and dash to match the hood, the interior is a very inviting place – made even more special by the electrically adjustable cream leather seats trimmed with dark blue piping. All in excellent condition, the high-backed driver’s seat puts the ‘pilot’ in front of a trademark 911 row of five VDO gauges and provides a commanding view down the unmistakable bonnet, flanked by raised wings.
A pair of leather-trimmed rear seat squabs and foldable backs provide extra storage space or occasional seating and, because this is a convertible, the usual height restrictions created by the rear window is eased for those wishing to sit in the back – legroom being the main consideration.
Matching blue door cards complete the interior look, but the driver also has a range of deluxe features at their fingertips, including headlamp washers, electric windows and heated door mirrors.
A rare chance to snap up a superb, low mileage, example of Porsche’s iconic sports car. With the looks of a Turbo 911, but with the charm and reliability of a standard 3.2-litre engine, you get the best of both worlds and the chance to experience open-top motoring with top-notch engineering in a package that, with care, will last for many more decades. A slice of the 1980s but with timeless appeal.
